Circular Economy

“An economy thought to regenerate itself. In a circular economy, material flows can be of two types: biologic material can reintegrate into the biosphere, while technical material is bound to be regenerated without becoming part of the biosphere”.

The most widely and appreciated definition of circular economy was coined by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

The goals of the efforts toward a circular economy, at national, European and worldwide level, are targeted at ridding the world of the most unsustainable elements in the current production system (defined as “linear”) where a raw material is first transformed in the production cycle and, upon use, becomes a waste, forcing the entire economic chain to start the extraction, production, use and disposal cycle all over again.

A “circular” product should be made starting from a massive use of renewable energy sources.

Then, it should be designed in order to be as efficient and durable as possible, with parts suitable to be recycled or reused.
